Darleen “Dee Dee” Shelmadine was born to parents Jack and Sharon Hensley on December 22, 1964 in Sacramento, CA. She passed on July 12, 2016. Cherished wife to her best friend, Darren. Affectionate mother to Rebecca and Robert Griesel and daughter-in-law Monica Spencer. Doting Grandmother to grandsons Caleb Griesel and Donny Watkins who adoringly call her “Mima.” Loving sister to siblings Joni (Kevin) DeCroix, Phyllis (Dan) Barry, Jack (Michele) Hensley and Jeffrey (Pamela) Hensley. Her memory is treasured by all of her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darleen graduated from La Sierra High School in 1983 and attended American River College for Early Childhood Education. She completed a Computer Networking program at Northwest Technical College and studied at Accredited Real Estate Academy. She was a loyal employee of Verizon Wireless for 16 years in Customer Care and Business Services. Darleen was a spark of life and was always smiling and giggling. She was an animal lover and a dear friend that would help anyone in need. She brought light to the lives of those around her. She loved to swim and travel. She especially enjoyed trips to Disneyland with her husband and family. Dee Dee loved unicorns and was an avid tooth flosser. Sundays meant movie theatre trips with her mother and sisters; holidays meant dying easter eggs and building gingerbread houses at Aunt Dee Dee’s house. She was full of love and was always surrounded by it.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 9:30AM at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery at 5810 Midway Rd. Dixon, CA. Family and friends are then invited to a celebration of life immediately following at 8143 Mesa Oak Way Citrus Heights, CA. PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (725-2109), directors.
