Don Ray Clegg, 87, resident of Roseville, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, with his wife at his side and surrounded by his family.

Born May 19, 1929 in Soldier Summit, Utah to John Wallace Clegg and Mary Ellen Wadley Clegg. Don grew up in Springville, Utah, graduating from Springville High School and subsequently from Brigham Young University.  He loved God and he loved his Country, serving 2 ½ years as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Spanish American Mission of Texas and New Mexico; then fulfilling his duty with the United States Army at Fort Ord, California as a Gunnery Sergeant.

In 1954, during his military service, he married his long-time sweetheart, Sofia Alba Pantin, in Mercedes, Texas.  Four days later their marriage was solemnized in the Manti, Utah LDS temple.

His career began with the Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, Texas, transferring to the Immigration and Naturalization Service San Francisco office where he worked until his retirement in 1982 as the Assistant District Director over Detention and Deportation for the Western United States.  Don’s transfer to San Francisco brought the family to San Lorenzo, where they lived for 37 years, together raising their six children.  Don and Sofia moved to Antioch in 2000, and then to Roseville in 2016.

Don loved God and lived his life as a true disciple of Jesus Christ and never hesitated to share his testimony of the Gospel with others.  He remained active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of his life, serving wherever he was needed with love and devotion to his fellow man.

Don had a great knack for telling jokes and making others smile.  He loved travel, road trips, music, working on art projects, and writing poetry, but was happiest spending time with his wife and family.  His spiritual strength, kindness and humor will be missed by all.

Don leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Sofia and their six children:  Carmen Bertola (Ed), Don Clegg (Patty), Steve Clegg (Ingrid), Christine Dimsdale (John), Barbara Watts (Dave) and Robert Clegg (Malena).  Don is also survived by two sisters:  Helen Miner of Springville, Utah and Marilyn Hyer of Quincy, Washington.  Don’s legacy also includes 20 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren to date.  Don is pre-deceased by his brothers, LaVere Clegg, Howard Clegg, and Eugene Clegg all from Springville, Utah.

Memorial services will be held for Don at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 859 Grant Avenue, San Lorenzo, CA.
