Karis passed away at home April 5, 2017, with her family at her side. She was born June 8, 1947 to Charles and Fern Garrigus. She was predeceased by her sister Marmarie Madison. She will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
Karis received her education at Reedley Community College, De Anza Community College, Fresno State, San Jose State, UC Davis and Sac State, earning a degree in accounting and a teaching credential. In her professional career, she worked as an accountant and as a tutor.
Karis was very involved in Orangevale Rotary for 16 years, serving as president in 2004-2005. She especially enjoyed her work on the International Committee to provide Shelter Boxes for families in disaster areas and micro-credit loans to women in Africa to start small businesses. She was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
A talented musician, Karis loved playing her baby grand piano and her electric keyboard, as well as the cello. She also loved traveling with her husband and many Rotary friends. She loved to garden and enjoy her backyard, but mostly the Beach house with her doggies, Lula and Maisie.
Karis leaves behind her husband of 14 years, Orton (Bud), her children Nick (Lauren) and Kate(Tyler), brothers Richmond and Charles, sister Rose, grandchildren Henry John Stauffer and Margaret Elise Kominitsky, former husband John Kominitsky, three step-children, eight step-grandchildren, and nine step-great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service April 28, 2017 at 10:00AM at PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights (725-2109), to be followed by a Celebration of Life at Divine Savior Parish Hall, 9079 Greenback Lane, Orangevale, from 12:00PM to 3:00PM.
