Leo Garcia, age 87, of Gold River, CA, passed away April 6, 2018 surrounded by loving family. He was born on April 1, 1931 in Fort Lupton CO. to Y.L. and Rita Garcia. Leo was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Amparo Garcia, his son Gregorio Garcia, his parents, and 11 siblings (Mary, Gabriel, Mary Dominga, Ruth, Grace Silva, Don, Paul, Isabel Rodriguez, Joe and 2 siblings who died as infants Jesus and Ester). Leo is survived by his children Eric (Maria), Ricardo (Nancy), and Diana Amador (Fernando) and 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
At age 21 Leo served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After he completed his time in the Air Force, Leo worked in a lumber mill in Arcata CA. then moved to Sacramento where he met his beautiful wife Amparo. While in Sacramento Leo worked as a barber prior to starting his 25-year career with the City of Sacramento. Leo’s 25-year career included being a Supervisor for the Sacramento Zoo with his final two years spent coordinating activities with the City Parks Division. In his later years Leo dedicated his time to being the best grandpa ever, volunteering for the Sacramento Loaves & Fishes and serving his community as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights Of Columbus Council #6066 at Saint Mel Catholic Parish in Fair Oaks CA., he will be greatly missed. Contributions to the American Cancer Society in Leo's memory are also appreciated.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM with a Recitation of the Rosary Service at 7:00PM and are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:00AM all at ST. MEL CATHOLIC CHURCH (4745 Pennsylvania Ave., Fair Oaks). Committal to follow at 2:00PM at St. Mary's Cemetery (6700 21st Ave., Sacramento).
