“Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.” -- Victor Hugo

Shirley Joyce Taylor Jones was born on December 20, 1936 in Clovis, CA. and passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from Multiple Myeloma.  With this disease comes a lot of pain, but she thought of it as a gift from God.  She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.  Shirley graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School in 1955 and attended Fresno City College.  She enjoyed working in Yosemite Park during her summers.  In 1963 Shirley married William F. Jones in Fresno, CA and had 5 daughters together.  In 1976 the family moved to Fair Oaks, CA.  Shirley enjoyed being a full time mom at home raising her daughters.  For several years she volunteered at the elementary school and when she was done volunteering she would enjoy playing a few sets of tennis and visiting with her fellow tennis partners and friends at Glen Oaks swim and tennis club.   Shirley enjoyed attending all of the high school sporting events.   Shirley was a passionate spectator and loved watching tennis, the S.F. 49er’s and the S.F. Giants.   Shirley enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and taking road trips with her daughters.  She will be greatly missed by all.  Shirley was a parishioner at St. Johns and St. Mel’s Catholic Church.  She traveled with the church on several religious pilgrimages including Rome, Italy where she saw Pope John Paul II.  Shirley later worked for the State of California for 20 years and enjoyed her many friendships.  Shirley and Bill have 8 grandchildren and helped care for all of them after their retirement.  Shirley said “being a grandmother was the best thing ever”!

Shirley is preceded in death by her father and mother Victor and Josephine Taylor of Fresno, CA. She is  survived by her husband William F. Jones and her children Gina Jones, Priscilla Andrade & James Martin , Therese & Jason Vance, Victoria & Joe Souza and Suzanne & James Corfee and her eight grandchildren; Taylor, Victor, Sofia, Alex, Emma, Charlie, Fred and Matthew.  She is also survived by her brothers, Jim and Larry Taylor, three brother in-laws, three sister in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
