Thorvald Bertram Honsvick Jr. returned to his Heavenly Home on July 19, 2016.  He was born Jan. 27, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thorvald and Signe Honsvick.  He was 93.  Waiting to greet him are his wife Clara Mae Hiatt Honsvick, daughters Susan Gail and Lorry Jean and many other family and friends.  Surviving him are sons Eric Douglas, Ronald Scott, daughter Amy Honsvick Gionson. and brothers Wilford and Glen Honsvick.  He has 16 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Thor's parents migrated from Norway and met in the USA.  They had 9 children, 2 girls and 7 boys, that included 2 sets of twins of which he is the oldest son of the twin sets.  Having lived in the depression he started working at age 13 to help support the family.  Times were very hard for their family, forcing them to sometimes live months in a tent in the cold of winter in Salt Lake valley. Much of the hardships they faced helped to build his strong character, the will to succeed and always do your best.  His dad was a master carpenter and taught him to follow in his footsteps.  All 7 boys in his family were in the military at the same time during WW11.  He and his twin brother Gilbert joined the Air Force together and trained to be and Aircraft Maintenance Tech. and was a Crew Chief.   He rarely talked about things that went on during that time because it was a difficult war.  In 1946 he married the love of his life Clara Mae Hiatt in the Salt Lake Temple and started their family of 5 children 2 years later.   Six months after the oldest child was born in Calif, they bought a farm in Vale, Oregon where Mae grew up.  In 1962 the family sold the farm and moved to Napa, Calif where he became a contractor building homes for several years. Years later he started working at Mare Island Naval Shipyard where he retired. He was always a take charge person. During those years he worked in many supervisory positions including the railroad system, inspections, repairing ships and nuclear subs.  Thor had the "gift of gab" and loved talking and joking with people.  He always had lots of interesting experiences to talk about and always knew something about everything. He loved learning and was very learned in many things.  He was very devoted to his church callings and family.  Family always came first.  Camping, fishing, water skiing, going for long drives, playing board games and cards were some of the things the family did together. The house was always a place where love was infused and a comfortable place for the kid's friends to come.  Friends are invited to attend services Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11AM at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Vacaville 2nd Ward Chapel (360 Portsmouth Ave., Vacaville, California).  Interment following at 1:30PM at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.  PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, directors (916-725-2109).
