Joan Geistert Obituary

Joan Maria Roy was born on April 20th, 1942, in Biddeford, Maine. Her father was Conrad Roy, and her mother was Gemma Fortin. Joan was an older sister to her brother, Mark Albert. Joan was a French-speaking baby until she attended Catholic school and was graciously taught English by Catholic nuns. In 1954, her family moved to Glendale, California where she graduated from Hoover High School in 1960. After high school, Joan was a telephone operator for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company.

On December 22nd, 1962, she married the love of her life and became wife to Richard Albert Geistert. This was a true fairy tale where the woman met her Prince Charming at a military ball, got hitched 7 months later, and was married to her best friend for 58 years.

In 1972 Joan and Dick Geistert moved from the LA area to San Jose. Joan was a stay-at-home mother until 1976 when she became a secretary at Bachrodt Elementary School. Joan left Bachrodt Elementary in 1981 and was a secretary at the San Jose Teacher Association from 1981-1998. She retired from working and moved to Sun City in Roseville, California in 1999.

Joan was a mother to three adored children, Renee Elizabeth, Richard Scott, and Karin Kristine. She was grandmother to Daniel Miller, Andrew Daggett, Austin Miller, Megan Miller, Ryan Daggett, Katrin Geistert, Zoe Geistert, and Sara Geistert. She was a great-grandmother to Everett Cuellar, Hudson Miller, Clementine Miller, Isla Rae Miller, Elliotte Daggett, August Miller, and Eleanor Miller.

Joan was fun, loving, passionate, and warm. She had a contagious smile and laugh that would fill up the room. Joan enjoyed playing Mahjong, cards, bocce ball, doing puzzles, coloring on her iPad, traveling, and winning big at the casinos playing penny slots. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family, hosting multiple Christmas’, showing up to soccer games, weddings, and graduations. She took pride in her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and loved them dearly.

On March 1st, 2024, Joan Maria Geistert passed away. Her hospital room was jam-packed with her family, which was a testament to the legacy she left behind.
