Annie passed away peacefully at 9:10 am on Monday, August 24th, 2107 of natural causes. Annie was one of five children born to Clarence Thomas and Annie Elizabeth Hardy of Chicago, Il.  She was married to Thomas A. Meigel and had two children, Robin Laurel (1954) and David Walter (1957).  When Thomas retired from active duty with the US Navy, the family settled in Poway, CA just north of San Diego, in 1962.  They divorced in 1969.

Committed to supporting her children, Annie stayed in Poway, well after her children graduated high school and went on to pursue their own careers.  Though priding herself as a “stay at home mom”, Annie took on additional part time jobs including being a secretary for a college professor at the US International University located near Scripts Ranch, CA.  In later years, she supplemented her income by providing childcare for local families.  A woman with very strong Christian beliefs, Annie was also very active with her local church and charity organizations such as FISH in and around the community.

In 2002 it became too expensive for her to remain in Poway so her son David, who moved to Orangevale in 1999 after his retirement from the US Air Force, opened his house to her and took her in.  She settled in quickly and joined the congregation of the Orangevale Baptist Church for a number of years, while making fast friends among the neighbors around David’s home.

In 2012 she was diagnosed with progressive Alzheimer’s and dementia, requiring more care than her son could provide by himself, and was admitted to Asbury Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sacramento, CA under custodial care for the remainder of her days.

She is survived by her two children, Robin of Washington D.C. and David of Orangevale, CA, and a younger brother, Lawrence Thomas Jr., of Bristol, WS.

Friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 12:00-1:00PM with the service at 1:00PM all at PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, 916-725-2109).  An additional visitation will be held in Georgia on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12:00-1:00PM at Mt. Pleasant Church (5455 Mt. Pleasant Church Rd., Macon, GA.) with a graveside service at the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery at 1:00PM.
