David Simmons Obituary

David Simmons, of Citrus Heights, California passed away October 14, 2019 in his home at the age of 66.  David, a native of Bountiful, Utah, is survived by his wife, Marie Simmons, and five children: Jason (Charen) Simmons, Lisa (Jason) Smith, Rebekah (Robert) Bubb, Rachel (Michael) Young and Bill (Andrea) Simmons.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Addysen, McKinley, Donovan, Katie, Abby, James, Sami, Lillian, Eliza, Anastasia and Meredith.

David was born the youngest of three children to Oris and Viola Simmons.  His two sisters, Jeanne Craven and Barbara Van Ry remain residents of the Bountiful, Utah area.

David was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a full-time proselyting missionary for two years in Oregon, California and Idaho.  He held several callings within the church, including as a bishop and counselor to the stake president.  His faith was a central focus of his life and he testified of Jesus Christ to the end of his life.

David served 22 years in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Major in 1998.  His service took him across the globe, with assignments in Washington state, where he met and fell in love with his cherished wife Marie, Turkey, Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, Indiana, Germany, and finally California.  David credits his military service with opening doors in his life that never would have been opened otherwise, and always holds a special place in his heart for his country and those who volunteer to defend it.

After retirement, David continued his governmental service as a legislative analyst for the Los Angeles County Office of Education.  Working near the capitol in Sacramento allowed David to remain in one place and develop lasting friendships that he held as precious.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a good friend and an ardent disciple of Jesus Christ.
