When I heard the news I was very sadden. Matt and I served as missionary companions in Washougal and Camas Washington. It was a privilege serving with Matt. His testimony and love for the gospel was powerful. It was truly a blessing to serve with Matt and I will never forget our time together as missionaries. My condolences and aloha.

I am so very sorry i could not be there. I cannot help but let all of my fondest memories with you and your amazing family flood back in, when I heard the news. We hadn't seen or heard from each other in so long, but I have missed you, and will continue to miss you brother.

To Matt's family,
My heart aches for your loss. I have been off the grid for a number of years, but I love you all and want you to know that you are all the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I know that, because of you, Matt had an amazing life.

I heard someone say, While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil, I know that without a doubt as Matt is overwhelmed at this time busy with so many love ones and the information he was seeking. Matt was my friend for a short time. The biggest thing that I will miss about him was his smile, you couldn't help to love his personality his love for life. Our lunches at Jaspers Hamburger joint won't be the same and it didn't matter what time or where he was, I will miss him calling me about his love for his country, church and sister and the respect and love that he had for his parents. God Bless you, Matt, we'll meet again my friend. Love you always, Ron Gillespie

You will always be remembered. You truly made a positive impact on my life during high school. You were always so sweet and kind to me. You truly did make others feel loved. And that they mattered. Thank you for being such a gentle soul. Rest easy!

Matt was such a sweet person. I remember him when he was 5. My kids grew up with him. He was always kind. He will be truly missed by everyone who loved him!

Dear Evans Family,

I was heart broken to hear of your sudden loss. I read about Matt and what a fine man he had grown to be. You must have been very proud of him.

Nothing can prepare us for the loss of a loved one, especially as parents. We should never have to say goodbye to our sweet children. I also lost a son just 10 months ago, so dare I say I believe I know what you're going through and it breaks my heart.

I wish I had the words to comfort you but I have found there just aren't any. It's just a road you must now travel. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Matt, our hearts break for you and your family. Although we know that you will see your loved ones again, and it lessens the sting, you're smile will be missed by all of us.

I can remember our short time in the Singles branch after we arrived home from our missions and what a sweetheart you always were to everyone you knew. I feel as though it's the soft kind hearts that are sometimes taken back home, for various reasons. Having lost my own brother just over a year ago, I feel so much empathy and cry for your sweet family.

May you be in peace with Heavenly Father by your side and know that you are so missed and loved! Our prayers and hearts are with your family at this difficult time.

Lots of Love,
Ashley Gilbert
