Ramon Victor Pereyra was born on December 26, 1979 in San Jose, CA. He was raised in the Evergreen area of San Jose and attended Cedar Grove Elementary and Quimby Oak Middle School. He played in the Mt. Hamilton Youth Soccer League from kindergarten through middle school. The family moved to La Selva Beach, CA in 1996 and Ramon attended Aptos High School. He played on the Aptos High School Football, Baseball and Rugby teams.
In 2001, Ramon joined the US Navy and was assigned to USS Nimitz Aircraft carrier stationed in San Diego. He served two tours of the Iraq war during the many USS Nimitz deployments to the Persian Gulf. He was honorably discharged in 2006 and the following year, he joined the CA Department of Corrections. He attended the Correctional Training Center in Galt, CA serving as the lead Cadet Officer for a 40-cadet troop. Ramon was assigned to Folsom State Prison upon graduating from the academy. He served in many assignments in his 12-year career with the Department of Corrections including the last 2 years in the inmate transportation department.
Ramon was active in the community; He coached to his daughter’s soccer team for many years, and boxed and coached with Law Enforcement & Firefighters Boxing (BadgevsBadge,Inc). He volunteered in his children’s school events.
Ramon is survived by his father, Ray Pereyra, his sister, Magdalena Constantino, daughter, Isabella Pereyra, son, Ramon Jacob Pereyra. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Pereyra.
He was a great father to his children, Isabella and Ramon Jacob (JR). Ramon loved his children, family and his girlfriend, Courtney. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the men and women of the CA Department of Corrections for their personal support and the understanding they provided to Ramon during his year-long battle with cancer. The family wishes to acknowledge the many sacrifices Courtney Stewart made to stay at Ramon’s side day and night to provide him support and comfort during the darkest periods of his journey. Also, we are truly grateful for the support and counsel that Courtney’s extended family provided to Ramon and his family.
A memorial mass will be held at the Divine Savior Catholic Church on Friday January 18, at 9:30AM. Rosary service will be held at Divine Savior Catholic Church on Thursday, January 17, beginning at 6 PM. Divine Savior Catholic Church is located at 9079 Greenback Lane, Orangevale, CA. Interment with military honors will follow the mass from 12:30 to 1PM at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA.
A celebration of Ramon’s life will follow at American Legion - Post 208 from 1 to 3PM, located at 1305 N. 1st Street, Dixon, CA 95620.
