Reid Barney Obituary

Reid Wallace Barney was born third of seven children on 8/8/1975 in Toppenish, WA to Gene & Arlene Barney.  "Little Reid" was a mischievous and loving child much beloved by his parents and siblings.   He attended grades K-12 in Wapato WA where he excelled scholastically, lettered in sports, music, drama, and made many friends   Some of  his accomplishments included being in the National Honor Society, a three-sport athlete, a Thespian, playing the saxophone, and an Eagle Scout.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  At age 20, Reid served a  two- year  mission to Leeds England, followed by a lifetime of church service in various callings.  While attending Brigham Young University he met the love of his life, Emily Hall.  They were married for time and all eternity in the Oakland Temple on 04/07/2001 and they settled in Lincoln, CA.  While beginning their family that eventually grew to five sons, Reid worked in the field of risk management/health and safety by day and completed both a Bachelors Degree in Business and Masters Degree in Human Resources by night.  In the spring of 2015 Reid created his own company, Independent Lighting and Energy, which was showing great promise at the time of his death.

Reid was first and foremost a devoted husband and father dedicated to caring for his family.  He was a respected member of the business community and known for his expertise and integrity.  He loved the Lord and strived to serve and love his fellow-man as commanded.  He was hard-working, kind, and generous with his time, his compassion, and his wallet.  Reid was really just a big kid in an adult body.  His sense of humor and ability to make people laugh was legendary.  He enjoyed flying kites, jigsaw puzzles, Rubik cubes, computers, video games, Lego's, all things Star Wars, the Seattle Seahawks, good English chocolate, mom's cherry pie, and peaches.  He loved being outside for any reason whether it was splitting wood, fishing, or camping.  Reid passed away unexpectedly on 9/6/2019 while hiking with a church youth group, and we find it comforting that he was doing something he loved during his last minutes.  The family wishes to thank the brave men who were with him when he collapsed and fought so valiantly to keep him with us.

Reid is survived by his wife Emily, sons Levi, Zachary, Austin, Ethan, and Jake; parents Gene & Arlene Barney, Wapato, WA; siblings Mary (Craig) Banes, Bountiful, UT; Sara (Carter) Bair, Grand Junction, CO, Elizabeth (Chad) Roberts, Lake Point, UT; Ruth (Zach) Davidson, Moxee, WA; Jeremiah (Breanna) Barney, Herriman, UT; and Adam Barney of Rexburg, ID, 30 nieces/nephews, and 68 cousins.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Reid & Bernice Barney and Theodore & Esther Lindsey.
