William "Bill" Gaittens Obituary

Bill was born May 20, 1940 in Astoria, Oregon to James Donald (Don) and Betty Virginia Gaittens.  He graduated from Seaside High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Oregon and has been a lifelong supporter of the “DUCKS”!  He was also an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  While serving in Germany, he earned the rank of Captain.

Upon his return to the United States, he worked for Georgia-Pacific Corp. in Portland, Oregon as an Assistant PR Manager.  He also served as Editor of the award-winning Growth magazine, an in-house publication with a circulation of 35,000.  Bill went on to develop his skills in association management and marketing at the Western Wood Moulding and Millwork Producers and the Independent Veneer Producers Associations.  In 1976, he moved to Sacramento to become Sales Representative/Director of Marketing for Eagle Forest Products.  His career in the forest products industry was broadened by his time spent at Haley Brothers and Berdex Forest Products.

In 1984, he married his loving wife, Julie.  Together, they enjoyed traveling, golfing and entertaining.  Bill especially enjoyed Julie’s cooking.  Bill was an extremely creative writer and photographer and talented hobbyist at both.  He also enjoyed sports, reading, music and animals.  He loved sports cars and enjoyed owning several during his lifetime.  He was known for his great sense of humor, big smile, bigger laugh and bright blue eyes.  Bill is the father of Jim and Laura and the grandfather of Steve, Andrew, Doug, Brock, Mia and Connor. He was always very proud of their accomplishments.

Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends, but cherished for the memories they have created together.
