Abelardo Curras Obituary

Abelardo (Neno) Francisco Curras, 80, of Sacramento, California, passed away on
November 18, 2024 at home, surrounded by family. He was born on April 25, 1944, in
Caibarien, Cuba.

Neno grew up in Caibarien and Havana Cuba with his family until his late teens, when
his family began leaving the country. When he reached the United States, he attended a
semester at Fordham University but left school to join the army. After leaving the army
he started a career in computer programming in the New York City area, where he met
his first wife, Mary Winter. They married and moved to Newark, California, where they
raised their three children and many pets. He progressed in his career for Safeway,
working in various IT positions until his retirement in 2009. Along the way he went back
to college and earned his degree from the University of San Francisco while working
full-time and raising his family. Several years after Mary passed, he married his second
wife, Deborah Noble in 2006. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Sacramento, where
they lived since 2007. Neno and Deb traveled extensively in retirement, including to his
favorite location of all – Venice.

A self-described introvert, he was a man of few words, but was extremely smart,
hardworking, and curious. His sense of humor was sly and dry, but hilarious. He loved
his family, dogs, dog training, friends, books, computer programming, technology, trains,
traveling, cooking, home projects, bagpipes, jazz music, helping family/kids/friends find
solutions to problems, and so much more. His love, his support, his puns, and his
presence will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Curras, his children Jennifer, Christina, and Richard
Curras, his grandchildren Maroon and Ronin Curras, his siblings Maria (Ray) Scanga
and Jose (Jessica) Curras, sister-in-law Lily Curras, numerous cousins and extended
family and friends, and family pets Zoe, Ziggy, and Zack. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Anastasio and Roselia Curras, his first wife, Mary Winter Curras, his
brother, Ernesto (Lily) Curras, and numerous beloved family pets.
