Akanesi Tupou (Uele), known to many as Grandma Nesi or Nesi, passed peacefully into the night on December 12, 2020 at the age of 86 in her Sacramento home after a courageous battle with Cancer. Akanesi Tupou was born on February 1, 1934 to the late Sione and Maile Uele in Matamaka, Vava’u. She later married the late Sione Manukia Tupou. They were eventually sealed for time and all eternity in the New Zealand Temple. Akanesi and Sione Manukia then migrated to the United States from Tonga in 1980 where they settled in Sacramento, California. After losing her husband in 1981, Akanesi continued to serve, love and care for her children and grandchildren. She was a pioneer and faithful member of the first Tongan ward, the Tala’Ofa Ward, in Sacramento, CA for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Akanesi Tupou is survived by a posteriy of 10 children and their spouses: Mele Tuatonga (Tevita Tuatonga), Pelenaise Tupou (Taufa Tupou), Lose Honolulu Latu-Vaki (Ma’afu Latu-Vaki), Loisi Tupou (RIP), Siosefa Kulia Tupou (Sive’a Tupou), Tevita Tupou (Poliana Tupou), Tolofi Kafu (Vainikolo Kafu), Penitekosi Tatafu (Sinitalela Tatafu), Tuimoeofa Afeaki (Soane Afeaki), and Ana Hungalu Saluni (Tevita Saluni). 51 grandchildren and 93 great grandchildren, whom she loved unconditionally. She will be remembered as a woman of faith, charity, endurance, and all-encompassing love. We will miss her dearly.
