Betty Eileen (Whipple) Howe Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother. Betty passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 100, at her home in Orangevale, CA, where she lived since 1977. Daughter of Mortimer E. Whipple and Kathryn Eddy Whipple, Betty was born on July 27, 1925, in Peterboro, New York. Betty brought joy, love, and inspiration to those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to her family whom she loved deeply. Pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert W. Howe, and brother Paul Whipple. Also pre-deceased by members of her husband’s family with whom she was remarkably close, sisters-in-law Carol Howe, Dolores Howe, and Janet Haenlin, and brother-in-law Lawrence Howe, and son-in-law Steven Strand. Survived by daughters, Nancy Strand and Kathleen Howe of Orangevale, sons Brian Howe and Bruce Howe of Citrus Heights, grandsons Jeffrey Strand, and James Strand (Jennifer) of Orangevale; great grandchildren Justin Strand (Emily) of Fair Oaks, Nicole Scheurman (Riley) of American Fork, UT, and Lily Ann Strand of Orangevale; a great, great grandchild Elizabeth Scheurman of American Fork, UT., brother-in-law Robert Haenlin of Fort Mill, SC, as well as many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss Betty’s presence. Betty retired in 1986 from McClellan AFB, where she was a supervisor in the Inbound Household Goods Division. Betty and Bob travelled all over the country in their RV and several times to Europe, with Paris being one of Betty’s favorite places.
A funeral mass celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Noon at Divine Savior Catholic Church, 9079 Greenback Ln., Orangevale, where Betty was a member for many years. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and share stories honoring a life well-lived at a reception at Betty’s home at 9109 Orangevale Ave., Orangevale. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would honor her name.
