Carol Jean Koller Obituary

Carol Jean Marie Koller, 85, of Fair Oaks, formerly of Roseville and long time resident of Novato, California, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Jean was born to Carl and Hannah (Clauson) Venaas on October 5, 1934 in Valley City, North Dakota.  She attended schools in Kathryn and Fingal, ND and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1956.

On November 30, 1956, Jean married Conrad Koller in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fingal, ND.  Jean and Conrad first moved to Fargo, ND and sons Jeff (1957) and Scott (1960) were born in Moorhead, MN.  They ventured off to California in 1962 looking to further Conrad’s education and find opportunity previously unavailable in North Dakota.  They moved several times, including Colorado, California where daughter Marie (1965) was born, and Oregon, before finally settling in Novato, CA in 1967.  In 2011, Jean and Conrad moved to Roseville, CA to be closer to family.  Conrad passed away in November 2012 and Jean moved to Fair Oaks in October 2019.

Jean worked as a registered nurse quickly promoting to evening shift supervisor at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Rafael before retiring in 1994.  She continued to work periodically in a supervisor shift relief role until 1998.  She was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato.  Jean and Conrad enjoyed traveling which included spending many summers driving their RV to North Dakota and winters driving to Arizona to visit family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Conrad, her beloved husband of 56 years; father Carl Venaas; mother Hannah Venaas Schoeppach; and sister Karen Schoeppach.

Jean is survived by son Jeff (DeAnna) Koller of Tennessee; son Scott (Lisa) Koller of California; daughter Marie (Jeff) Herbert of California; six grandchildren, Heidi (Matthew) Koller Rohe; Megan (James) Koller Thompson; Kathryn and Michael Koller; Jeremy (Mayci) Herbert; Nik Herbert; four great-grandchildren, Cael, Isla, Inga, and Ronan; brothers Jim (Janice) Venaas and Chuck (Diane) Venaas; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
