Casterdarrlyn ("Pete") Rhodes Obituary

Sacramento, California - On Saturday, April 23, 2022, Casterdarrlyn (“Pete”) Rhodes passed away in his Sacramento home at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Rhodes, and two sons, Nicholas and Andrew Rhodes, of Sacramento; daughter, Lezah Kelley of Marysville; mother Hazel Harvey; two brothers Eric and Cory, two sisters Mary and Olivia of the Los Angeles area; and his father Howard Johnson of Mississippi. He will be joining his younger brother Jourdan as he passed away in 2014. Pete was a father of three and grandfather of five, a son, an uncle, a brother, and friend to many.

The oldest of six siblings, Pete was born July 31, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1963. Soon after graduating high school, Pete joined the U.S. Air Force where he would travel the world as an aircraft electrician. He became known for his work on the first SR-71 Blackbird planes, a breakthrough of technology and aviation innovation for its time. After nearly 8 years in the military he moved to Sacramento where he started a family and lived for the next 40 years. He worked in the private sector as an electrician before retiring at age 56.

While Pete was known for his size, standing over 6’ 3”, people knew him more for the vibrant way he dressed. Always attempting to be the best dressed in the room with his colorful outfits and his wide range of coordinating hats. On the weekend he would be found at one of his two favorite places: Firefly Lounge or Torch Club in Sacramento. A social butterfly, Pete was also a lover of music, always having a plethora of CDs at his disposal to listen to. From blues to hip hop and almost everything in between, Pete had some kind of music playing at all times. Those that knew him understood he loved to listen to his extensive catalog of CDs but would prefer to listen to music live and in person. Either at Torch Club or a summer Friday at Concert in the Park, Pete loved to pick a spot in a corner and listen for hours. The only thing more noticeable than his size and his style was his unique and infectious laugh that could fill a room with joy. His smile and chuckle would be a staple to his friends and those who knew him.

As Pete served his country in the armed forces, he will be laid to rest May 31, 2022 at 9:00am at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620. There will be a celebration of life to follow at Firefly Lounge in Sacramento at 11:00am.
