Cathy Langford Obituary

Cathy Langford, 71, passed away on October 21st, 2020 at her home with family by her side.

A true California Girl, Cathy was born to Ken and Ginger Head who preceded her in passing and welcomed her to her Heavenly Home. Loving wife of Mike Langford. Amazing mother of Ken (Abby) Langford, Becky Jo (Ryan) Bohlin, Melanie (B) McGuire, Katie (Nic) Hoggan, & Sarah (John) Stephenson. Incredible Grandma to Kellen, Colten, Carsen, Kenna, Andrea, Maddie, Jeb, Naomi, Lily, Luke, & Chloe. Adored big sister to her loving brother Jim (Katy) Head and sister Marilyn (Rick) Sowers.

Cathy graduated from Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, then continued her studies at Brigham Young University where she earned degrees in Education and Spanish and studied abroad at the University of Madrid, Spain. At BYU, she met, married, and was sealed to Mike for time and all eternity in the Provo Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cathy and Mike raised their young family in Utah, Idaho, and then finally settled in California.

Cathy was an amazing mother to their five children - always supportive of any interest they might have, the sky was the limit.  She was their number one fan at sporting events, their private tutor for schoolwork, counselor with church activities, and always ready to plan a party - where she got all the energy without sleep is a mystery.  When it came to her grandchildren, there was no one like “Grandma Cali”.  She was involved in the details of their lives and made big and little memories magical.

In her professional career, there was no other teacher like Cathy. The faculty and students of Sierra Nueva High School became a second family to her, where she spent countless hours encouraging, educating, and uplifting hundreds of students. Her time spent with the Sierra Nueva family holds some of her most cherished memories and lifetime accomplishments, including being named Teacher of the Year for the San Juan Unified School District.

Cathy’s greatest enjoyment was family. Every holiday was a reason to celebrate and celebrate big - with homemade decorations and noise makers. She loved her property, plants, and trees that often turned into Camp Berrywoodfor family campouts. She loved to travel specifically to Washington to visit grandchildren, vacationing in Hawaii, Up North to Mercer Lake, WI and to the lakehouse at Lake Almanor.

Mom, Grandma, Grams, Grandma Cali – your “absence is like the sky… spread over everything”. We will always find you here: when we see daisies, go for a canoe ride, hug a tree, bang pots and pans at New Years, paint rocks, smell pinecones, and spread your homemade jam.  You were a blessing to all those around you and will be dearly missed until we meet again.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on Friday, October  30th, 2020 11:00AM at the Newcastle Cemetery outdoor pavilion, 850 Taylor Road, Newcastle, CA 95658. Limited seating prioritized for family but plenty of standing room for all. Due to COVID and Mom’s wishes, we ask all who physically attend are healthy, COVID negative, and wearing a mask. For those unable to attend, the ceremony will also be shared virtually over this Zoom meeting.
