Daniel Clay Killough

Daniel Clay Killough, affectionately known as "Danny Boy" by those who loved him, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on December 12, 1946, in Madera, California, to Johnnie Killough and Esther Ball McBroom. From an early age, he developed a deep love of learning, books, and the gospel of Jesus Christ, which shaped the course of his life.

In 1966, Dan faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central British Mission. His testimony of Jesus Christ remained the foundation of his life, and Dan found great joy in reading, studying, and discussing the scriptures with anyone willing to join the conversation. He believed in Jesus Christ, desired to follow Him, and did so throughout his life.

On December 21, 1968, Dan married LouRee Larson (Johnson) in the Oakland California Temple. Together they welcomed two daughters. Dan loved becoming a father. They divorced in 1974 but remained dear friends for the rest of his life.

Dan also honorably served his country in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany, he served as a Military Police Sergeant and later earned the rank of Second Lieutenant. His military service reflected his dedication and love for his country.

He married Cynthia Crosby (Woods) November 24,1979 in the Oakland California Temple, and together they became the parents of five children. His family remained the greatest source of his joy and pride. They later divorced in 2002.

Dan's lifelong love of words and books inspired him to pursue a degree in Journalism. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a bachelor’s degree and went on to enjoy a varied career in computers and insurance before completing his professional life and retiring with the State of California.

Of all his accomplishments, none brought Dan greater happiness than his family. He delighted in talking about his children and treasured every opportunity to connect with them. He is lovingly survived by his sisters: Lana Erickson (Jim) and Sandra Killough, and his children: Ganel-Lyn Condie (Robert), Carmel Cobabe, Shevaun Davis (Jacob), Daniel Killough, Kaitlyn Killough, and Derek Killough. He was preceded in death by his siblings Gale Killough, Quondaila Cameron, Tracy Killough and his beloved daughter, Meggan Killough.

Dan also leaves behind twelve cherished grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. His love of the music of John Denver and opera became a gift he passed on to his children and grandchildren, inspiring in them a lifelong appreciation for music, storytelling, and the beauty found in country roads.

Dan's legacy is one of faith, optimism, learning, and unconditional love. His example of faith, enjoyment of long conversations, love of books, and his affection for his family will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Though our beloved "Danny Boy" will be deeply missed, his influence endures through his posterity and in the countless lives he touched. We find comfort in the promise of the Gospel and in the knowledge that families can be together forever.  "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
