David A. Hammer was born in St. Louis, MO on February 2nd, 1953 to Harold and Marie Hammer. In 1980, he moved to Sacramento to attend graduate school as CSUS. He married Karen Brockopp in 1984, and they had two children, Devon and Jenna, who he loved dearly. Jenna married Zach Malgieri in 2020; David was a caring grandfather “Papa”  to their two children, Kai and Max. He was a dear friend to many people, and created many celebrations for his loved ones. He was a family therapist in private practice, focusing on trauma recovery. David was a lover of music, biking, dancing, SCUBA diving, and lifelong learning. David and Karen felt fortunate to explore many places in this beautiful world together and with friends. David passed on June 8, 2026, at sunrise, surrounded by family, friends, and the sounds of birds singing.
