David Russ Jensen

David Russ Jensen, a resident of Citrus Heights, California passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 79 in Carmichael, California. He was born on March 1, 1944 in Santa Rosa, California to Lorrin and Bernice Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rita Callahan. He attended Santa Rosa High School where he participated in track and field and was first chair clarinet in the orchestra and drum major in the marching band.

David served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York and worked at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair Mormon Pavilion as a tour guide. Upon returning, he continued his education and graduated from Brigham Young University. He was an avid lover of music and served as choir director and music director in his church. After years of working as a restaurant manager, then as a building inspector, he became a substitute teacher. David’s dream day would find him sitting in his boat on a lake fishing or at the shooting range trying out a newly purchased gun or in his recliner with a book in one hand and the TV remote in the other. He loved music, reading, making his favorite chili, grilling on the Weber, oatmeal raisin cookies, mom’s fruitcake, chocolate covered cherries, his truck, his boat, motorcycles, hunting, fishing, guns, the outdoors and his family. Give him a plot of dirt and he would plant a garden and took pleasure in growing things.

He had a sarcastic wit, a charming smile, and a playful twinkle in his eyes. He is survived by his children: Stacy, Sarah (Ivan), Aaron, Emily, Matthew; their mother Claudia; and his grandchildren: Dante, Isaac, Elise, Lucy and Sam.
