Denise Cecile Mason

It is with great sadness that we announce that Denise Cecile Mason passed away at Kaiser Permanente hospital on September 13, 2021 at 11:34 pm at age 66 surrounded by loved ones and prayers. Denise was born July 21, 1955 in San Bruno, California to Mary Patricia Bray Kunz and Louise Charles Kunz. 

Denise is survived by her husband James David Gies and family including: her children Jessica Mason and Josh Mason. Her grandchildren Destiny Brown and Jessenia Mason. Also survived by her sisters Patricia Ann Kunz Leach, Mary Roberta Kunz Santino, and Bernadette Therese Kunz and brother Robert Kunz.
 

Denise was born and raised in San Bruno, California in July of 1955 and graduated from Crestmoor High School in San Bruno in 1973. She grew up in a big family of 8 siblings and attended Saint Roberts Catholic School, Parkside middle school and Crestmoor High School all in San Bruno. 

She started her working career with Mcdonald’s and Montgomery Ward then later transitioned into the telephone company Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as a telephone operator. She furthered her career with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as a frames technician until the end of her career.  After that she switched to retail and worked at Mervyns in Roseville, CA and retired years later to enjoy home life such as gardening, sunbathing and various other activities. 

Denise was very family oriented, liked to do things with her family such as camping, concerts, amusement parks, festivals and more. She started her family with her daughter Jessica with Gerry Mason in 1982 and her son Josh in 1990. In 1999, Denise met James D. Gies, and when they fell in love they moved to Citrus Heights, CA, where they lived for 22 years. Could never forget her fur baby though, Violet, over the many pets we had she sure did love her cat. 

Denise enjoyed gardening; she loved her flowers, especially roses, among others. Over the years she became very passionate with music and showed appreciation by visiting local bands performances all over the northern california region. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an all time favorite, and even was brought up to stage to sing songs with her local bands. She was very outgoing, always wanting to go out dining, dancing, or of course shoes and clothes shopping. The automotive industry sparked her interest, specifically Harley Davidson’s, but any classic car show would do. She was a woman of adventure and had many interests but these were just a few. 

Friends and family are welcome to attend the visitation from 12:00-12:45PM with the memorial service at 1:00PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 all at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95610.
