Dolores Eileen Schilpp

Dolores “Dee” Eileen Schilpp, AKA “Gma,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the age of 88. Dolores was born in Torrington, Connecticut, but spent most of her life living in California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and finally Sacramento Counties. 

Dolores was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reed Blair Schilpp. 

Dolores was a descendant of Puerto Rican and Polish heritage who embraced and cherished many memories from both sides of her beloved families. She also loved reminiscing and telling stories of all the fun times she had throughout the years. Dolores had many passions in life, including most recently, to meet new people, eat at “good” restaurants and then afterwards stop on the way home to get ice cream/frozen yogurt, listen/sing to music (jazz, swing, and Puerto Rican/Cuban salsa), watch football games (USC/college and Raiders/NFL), crime shows, CNN, and any movie with Bradley Cooper in it, go shopping “to just look around,” and take drives to see the sunset, moon, or the blue Pacific Ocean. But most of all, she cherished spending time with those who loved her. She was the best “Gma,” and will be greatly missed.

Dolores loved the following poem and requested that it be included in her memory:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun.

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
