Elaine was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully on March 18, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born to Erdwig and Erna Clausen on August 7, 1930. After graduating from high school she married Orton Avant and had 2 children Janice and Judy, prior to moving to California. A few years later she had a daughter, Vicky. She was employed at the California State Tax Board where she worked hard and moved up the ranks to that of supervisor. She had many friends. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Elaine. She loved a quiet evening with friends and a good cup of Folgers coffee. She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. She loved her weekends in Fort Brag as well as camping and fishing and was very good at it. She enjoyed painting, knitting ,crocheting and road trips. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family in Minnesota quilting and playing card games. She loved time with her children and grandchildren. Elaine was humorous, full of jokes, a prankster at times and a friend to many. She is predeceased by her parents Erna and Erdwig Clausen, her sister Wilma (and spouse Earl Johnson), her sister- in-law Joyce Clausen and brother-in-law Harvey Moen.
