Evelyn Rocconi passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at home in Roseville, California. At the time of her passing she was one month shy of her 89th birthday.
Evelyn was born July 18, 1933, in Brawley, CA, the second child of Robert and Helen Stephens. She spent most of her life in California with some short stints in Arizona and Florida. Evelyn had four siblings - Anne Castillo, Barbara Crouch, Roberta Quartararo, and Robert Stephens. With Evelyn’s passing, she has one surviving sibling, Barbara Crouch of Salinas, CA. Evelyn was married three times and outlived all of her spouses and one of her children.
Evelyn graduated from Salinas High School in 1951, married her first husband, Richard Walton in 1953 during which time she bore three children: David Lane (1954), Richard Prentiss Jr. (1956) and Deanna Lynne (1958). Richard Jr. passed away in 1958 and in 1962 she and Richard divorced, and Evelyn raised her two children as a single mother until 1967, when she married Robert Fear. She had her fourth (and final) child, Robert George Fear, II in 1968.
She was married to Robert Fear until his death in 1981, during which time they lived in various locations in Northern California including San Jose, Fresno, Mokelumne Hill, Eureka and Santa Clara. During this time, Robert adopted David and Deanna. Following Robert’s death, she and Rob, moved to Springville, UT and later to Houston, TX, where she lived with David and his family for a short time. In 1985 she moved back to Sandy, UT and then to Rancho Cordova, CA in 1988. She met and married John Rocconi in 1990 and they lived in Folsom, CA until his passing in 2012. In 2018, she moved to Roseville and again resided with her oldest son, David and daughter in-law, Kathy who was Evelyn’s primary caregiver until the end of her life.
Evelyn lived a very full and exciting life. As a youth, she attended different churches including the Nazarene Church, and in 1973 she and her entire family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and remained a member to the end of her life. She was very involved with the Cub Scouts and Girl Scout organizations and was pleased to be a Girl Scout troop leader for several years. In addition to scouting, she spent many summer weeks helping at the annual church girls camp in the High Sierra and was constantly writing letters to church missionaries from her local congregation. She traveled throughout many states, visiting genealogical and historical sites and camping at State and National Parks. She was a regular visitor to family in the Western U.S. and Canada. She attended several temples of the LDS Church over the years.
On the wall inside her home, she maintained one of her most prized possessions: A “Family Tree” that listed her 4 children (David, Richard, Deanna and Robert), 12 grandchildren (Angela, Kara, David Jr, Michael, Steven, Cira and Vincent Fear; Audrey, Mandy and Kayla Walker; and Rebecca and Katy Fear). She was also a great-grandmother to 25 children – the names of whom are that Family Tree.
Evelyn’s funeral is handled by Price Funeral Home of Citrus Heights, CA and the funeral will take place on Thursday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m. (viewing at 9:00 a.m.) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 7950 Hazel Avenue, Orangevale, CA 95661.
