George Stephens

Long-time Orangevale resident George Stephens passed away on December 30, 2022, at the age of 85. George was a member of the Orangevale community since 1960.  George was a well-respected body and fender repairman, collector and car enthusiast. He established many friendships through his love of restoring old cars and racing super modified race cars and sprint cars at West Capital Raceway. Many knew him from his weekend outings - where he was always in pursuit of a hard-to-find car part, rare collectable item or great bargain at a local garage sale.  George prided himself on restoring collector cars to their original mint condition. His exceptional craftmanship won awards at numerous auto shows, including the Sacramento Autorama. His work was also highlighted in several hot rod magazines and journals. George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara. George is survived by his children Rick (and Debbie) Stephens, DeeAnn (and Ross) Eichelberger, JoAnn (and Brian) Pingree. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Jodee (Eichelberger) Crawford, Ashley (Eichelberger) Martinez, Mitchell Pingree and Macie Pingree, as well as his great grandchildren, Jackson and Avery Crawford, Mia Martinez and Grayson Pingree. 

*Friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 AM. The gathering will be held at George’s beloved “Street Rod Alley” at the Eichelberger residence (in Ross’s Workshop/Garage). The address is 9163 Cherry Avenue, Orangevale.
