Gertrude LaVon Weight

Gertrude LaVon Weight, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2025, at the age of 101. She was born on January 23, 1924, in Spanish Fork, Utah, where she was also raised.

Gertrude was the daughter of Herbert Earl Williams of Spanish Fork, Utah, and Janie Marie Hendrika Unk, originally from Arnhem, the Netherlands. Her life was rooted in family and faith. On April 17, 1946, she married her eternal companion, Verl F. Weight, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they built a loving life and, in the early 1950s, moved to Northern California, where they raised their children and created a home filled with warmth and devotion.

Gertrude and her mother had a joyful spirit and a gift for whistling, which became one of their most cherished trademarks. She continued to perform throughout adulthood, delighting those who heard her. To her children and grandchildren, the sound of her whistle was unmistakable—it was the call that meant it was time to come home, a sound that symbolized love, safety, and belonging. She was also an avid Sacramento Kings fan and faithfully cheered them on, sharing her enthusiasm and loyalty with family members through the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verl F. Weight; her son, John; her daughter, Janalee; her sister, Co Jane Williams; and her grandson, Steven.

Gertrude is survived by her brother Herbert, daughters, Carolyn and Hattie; her son, Robert; her grandchildren, Trisha, Tracy, Eric, and Garrett; and her four great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and family devotion.

Gertrude LaVon Weight lived a long and beautiful life, and her gentle presence, joyful whistle, and spirited cheers for the Kings will be remembered always. 

Viewing will be held only at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95610 on January 2, 2026 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. 

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2745 Eastern Ave,  Sacramento CA 95821 on January 3, 2026 at 11:00 am.
