Gladys Martineau Clayson

Gladys Martineau Clayson was born October 25, 1932 in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. She passed away peacefully on Oct 10, 2025 in Camino, CA - just shy of her 93rd birthday. Her parents were Carl Peirre Martineau and Gladys Gonzalez Martineau. She was raised in Provo, Utah. In 1946, her parents moved to Walnut Creek, (‘Walnut Corners’ at that time) California in where she lived until she began college. Gladys attended Contra Costa Junior College and received her AA degree in 1952. She went on to study at San Jose State in 1953 and later at Louise Salinger's School of Dress Design in San Francisco, graduating in June 1954. Between her studies, she served a full time stake mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1955, she attended Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart of 60 years, Harold William Clayson. They were married on December 30, 1955. Together they were blessed with 7 children, Linda Cook (Clayton), Sara Garcia (Tommy), David Clayson, Steven Clayson (Nancy), Mathew Clayson (Lori), Jana Hedman/Dawes (Dylan) and Mitchell Clayson, who did not survive. They raised their family in Fremont, California and were later blessed with 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. They retired to Cedar Grove(Camino), CA in 1986. Gladys was an avid and multidisciplinary artist. She began with dressmaking, then added oil painting, quilting, ceramics, tole painting, stained glass, jewelry making, and others. She won many awards for her wonderful quilts and fabric art.  Her Celebration of Life will be held December 6th at 11am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4621 Pony Express Trail, Camino, CA 95709.
