Hilma was born on 10 December 1928 to William Martin & Joy Hilma Elsasser on a farm in Trip County, South Dakota, the eldest daughter in a family of 12 children: 7 sons and 5 daughters. When she was 4 ½ the family suffered a loss of their farm in the depression and moved to Nebraska to start over. She attended many one room schoolhouses around Butte, Nebraska when the family moved to share crop farms in the area. She graduated from Butte, Nebraska high school in May 1947. Hilma then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend National Business College, where she met her husband LeRoy Wolcott, and was married in Beatrice, Nebraska in August 1948. In November that year they moved to Sacramento, California. To this union 8 children were born, 4 sons and 4 daughters. In 1970 the marriage ended in divorce. Hilma then moved to Citrus Heights, California where she resided until her death.
Hilma was baptized into the Missouri Lutheran Church (at Faith Lutheran Church) in 1950. She had attended Lutheran Sunday schools since she was in grade school. In September 1993 after wandering, a lost soul, for a number of years she was led by Jesus Christ to reaffirm her faith and has been a consecrated member of St. Marks ever since that time.
Hilma worked at McClellan Air Force Base for 22 years. She started there in 1965 as a GS-2 clerk typist and retired from Management in 1987 as a GS-11 Management Specialist. She also worked at Safe Federal Credit Union from 1990 to 1994. She was a Christmas Around the World Independent Sales Contractor for 7 years from 1987 to 1993. She was also very involved in her family and loved children.
She was preceded in death by her father-William Elsasser, mother- Joy Audiss-Elsasser, 4 brothers-Eugene, Raymond, Vernon, and Gerald; 2 sisters-Illa and Joyce; 2 sons-James and Martin and grandson-Jason: leaves to mourn: 2 sons- Dennis (Janine) of Clio, CA and Darren (Christi) of Citrus Heights, CA; 4 daughters- Deborah Ave-Lallemant of Fair Oaks, CA, Janice (Paul) Goddard of St. James, MO, Kathleen (Charles) Edwards of Roseville, CA and Susan Sims of Roseville, CA, 8 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 10 great-grandsons, 8 great-granddaughters, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and many nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.
There will be a visitation beginning at 9:30 am before funeral services held on Friday March 26, 2021 at 10:00 am at..
