Jean Ellen Richardson

Mom came out of the oven on July 18, 1938, a creation of love, service, faith, family, and friends. She was like a cake, each layer a reflection of the beauty she brought to the world. Her life was filled with the rich ingredients of love and joy, and her family—both biological and by choice—were the frosting that made her whole.

The cupcakes that preceded her from this life were her beloved husband, James Richardson, her parents, brother, sister, and many dear friends who have gone before her. They were the first to taste the sweetness of her love, and now they share in her heavenly celebration.

Mom’s life was decorated with creativity and service—whether through her beautiful cake decorating, her work with Nevada County Literacy, teaching through Master Food Preserver for Placer and Nevada Counties, her dedication to the Boy Scouts and girl’s camp, leading high adventure hikes, or her many church callings. Each act of kindness and service was like a sprinkle that added joy to the lives of everyone around her.

Though her slice of life ended on November 12, 2024, the crumbs of her legacy remain here on earth, carried on by her five children, many children by choice, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. These are the pieces of her life that will continue to spread her sweetness, just as she spread love and light to all who knew her.

We will carry her spirit with us—forever grateful for the joy she gave and the love she shared.

A viewing will be held on November 21, 2024, at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd, Citrus Heights CA 95610 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.

A memorial service will be held on November 22, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 615 Hollow Way, Nevada City, CA 95959 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to refreshments following the service.
