John Gary Anderson

John Gary Anderson, whose skilled hands served patients in the dental chair and created treasured pieces in his woodshop, passed away peacefully at his home in Carmichael, California, on July 5, 2026. He was 96 years old.

Born on August 5, 1929, in Moroni, Utah, to Ray and Susannah Anderson, John was the youngest of five children. His life was defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family. He proudly served his country as a dentist in the United States Navy during the Korean War, stationed in Japan. After his military service, he established a dental practice in Carmichael, California, where he cared for patients with professionalism and compassion for nearly 40 years.

John was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout his life. He was especially devoted to his work as a Scoutmaster, mentoring young men, and as bishop of the La Sierra Ward in Carmichael, where he offered steady, compassionate leadership.

Beyond his professional and ecclesiastical contributions, John was known for his wonderful sense of humor. A natural storyteller, he loved sharing a good joke and brightening any room with his wit. He was also an exceptionally skilled woodworker who found great joy in creating beautiful cabinets, furniture, jewelry boxes, and other treasured pieces. He generously shared his craftsmanship with friends and family, leaving behind a legacy of handmade beauty that will be cherished for years to come.

John loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed pheasant hunting with the faithful dogs that accompanied him over the years. His final canine companion, Buck, a special yellow lab, was his constant buddy and a source of great comfort.

John’s greatest achievement, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband for 65 years to his beloved wife, Carla, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised five sons and built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and love.

He is survived by his sons and their wives: Coray and Evelyn, Gary and Glenda, Martin, David, and Steve and Lisa; as well as by his 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his wisdom, laughter, and the values he lived by every day.

A service will be held on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 4125 San Juan Avenue, Fair Oaks, CA. A viewing will take place at the church at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.  Price Funeral Chapel (916-725-2109), directors.
