John Scudder III Obituary

John Anderson Scudder III, 64, died unexpectedly in the late afternoon of September 29, 2020, in his home in Meadow Vista, Californa.

John was born on January 9, 1956, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to John Anderson Scudder II, and Elizabeth Ann Strobel Scudder.  He grew up in Fort Wayne with his two sisters Barbara Scudder Yeast and Jill Scudder Howard.  In his early 20s he left Indiana and came to Californa where he learned his trade as a contract painter.  Eventually he built his own painting company, John Scudder Painting.

John married Eileen Kalbrunner in 1981, and fathered two wonderful children, John Scudder IV and Coni Scudder.  John and Eileen were later divorced.   In 2003 John met Linda Death, and they fell in love.  John and Linda were married in 2004 and were together for 17 years until his passing.

John had several passions in his life, the first of which was his family.  He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, John Charles Scudder, Bradley Bryan Scudder, and Autumn Ormrod.  He also loved his daughter-in-law, Lora Jane Scudder, who affectionately nicknamed him PJ for Papa John.  John and his daughter Coni Scudder spent endless hours on the phone laughing and catching up every Sunday evening.  Summers were full of fun family swim parties and BBQ’s.

John Scudder III loved to golf.  He started golfing with John Scudder IV when he was young and passed on his passion.  He loved to cook.  Sunday was “Soup Sunday” where John would try a new recipe every week.  His favorite gift to give at Christmas was smoked salmon.   He had a library of cookbooks. He loved to fish, and often spent time with friends catching steelhead on the river.  He also was an avid sports fan, especially his favorite team, Indiana University.

His cat, Jona, brought him great joy.  Because of his love for Jona, John would ask you to donate to your local cat rescue foundation in lieu of buying flowers.

John had a zest for life, and a love of people.  He was a great storyteller who brought laughter and smiles to everyone he met.  John will be missed by all who knew him.
