John Alton Shelton Jr.

John Alton Shelton Jr., age 73, returned home to his Heavenly Father and Savior on January 24, 2021. He sadly died from surgery complications in Sacramento, CA. He was born to John Alton Shelton Sr. and Dorothy Jean Nations on August 3, 1947 in Tucson, AZ. He was the oldest of 3 children. He was admired by his younger siblings, Louella, and Jerry Shelton. John lived a full and beautiful life. He loved his job, working for Union Pacific, as a railroad conductor for 42 years. He had four children: Dale Zirion, Leila Kane, Ramona Shelton, Julie Shelton, Angela Bayless. John was blessed with beautiful grandchildren that he loved and a wife, Cheryl Shelton, that he absolutely adored. After marrying Cheryl, they were sealed in the Sacramento, CA temple for all time and eternity. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He served in many callings in the church, throughout his life. He learned much and taught so many because of his endless talents and hobbies. John enjoyed leatherworking, learning family history, baking, cooking, and spending time with all the people he loved. John is remembered by his enormous amount of patience, unconditional love, his wisdom and his giving heart. His smile and gentle face will be missed by so many. He left a beautiful mark on the world and will be remembered for all the wonderful things he did on this earth. John is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louella. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Shelton, children, grandchildren, and brother Jerry. Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service will be held on February 5, 2021. An open house to honor John will be held on Feb. 5 from 2pm - 4pm at 2529 Country Club Dr. in Cameron Park.  PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (916-725-2109), directors.
