John & Bonnie Armitage Obituary

John & Bonnie Armitage Obituary

John & Bonnie Armitage passed away peacefully within hours of each other on Sunday, November 30, 2025.  John and Bonnie met in high school and were high school sweethearts.  After graduation, they traveled down different paths, each having their own successful careers and lives.  John was in the U.S. Navy and then was an electrical supervisor for a major construction company.  That position took him all over the world, and he visited just about every state in the United States and numerous countries.  He spent a lot of time working in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.  He absolutely loved his time in Vietnam.

Bonnie was an elementary school educator for 36 years.  She made such an impact on the children and was nominated Teacher of the Year by the Fair Oaks Rotary Club because of a community garden she planned and implemented.  She was the type of teacher who believed in incorporating hands-on activities to cement the learning and was totally dedicated to making sure each child had the opportunity to learn.  Even after retiring from teaching, she volunteered at the school her granddaughters and grandson attended.  She believed science was not being taught in the classroom, so she made lessons plans and experiments and taught a different science lesson each week.  The kids absolutely loved it when Mrs. A came to teach science.
John would visit Bonnie’s father’s barber shop each year, and every year he would ask how she was doing.  On one of the visits, John mentioned his mother had passed away.  Bonnie had always been fond of John’s mom; so, when her father told her John’s mom had passed away, she called John and offered him her condolences.  He then traveled from Idaho to California to visit her.  Two months later, they were married.  After 40 years apart, they were together again.

John and Bonnie loved taking trips during the summer with their granddaughters, and they planned a road trip to a different place each summer.  Their granddaughters have such fond memories of spending those precious times together.

John and Bonnie loved spending time with their family and always looked forward to whenever the family would get together.  They especially loved Sundays because that’s when the family had Sunday dinner together.

As their health deteriorated, their goal was to be able to stay in their own home.  Thankfully they were able to stay in their own home with the care and devotion of their caregivers:  Lisa, Akemi and Meg and passed away within four hours of each on the same day.  By the grace of God, they were allowed to travel the road to Heaven together.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church.  Private burial will be the following week.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to their favorite charities:  Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and St. Jude.
