John (Jack) Toohey Obituary

Obituary & Details Re: Viewing, Funeral Mass, & Celebration of Life will be posted on Price Funeral Chapel’s Website: Price Funeral Chapel | Citrus Heights, CA,  pricefuneralchapel.com, Telephone: 1-916-725-2109

John (Jack) Joseph Toohey was born on May 1, 1937 in San Francisco to Anthony John Toohey and Mary Francis McLaughlin, both born in Ireland. Jack was deeply connected to his Irish heritage and one of his greatest joys was his trip to his ancestral home in Ireland with his family and wife, MaryAnn.

Jack attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory School where he made many lifelong friends. He was active in the Catholic Cursillo Movement. His experience there profoundly affected his decisions to be of service to those in need of encouragement, and gave him the desire to give to others the opportunity to hear how much they are loved unconditionally and forgiven by God. Sharing his Faith was an important and gratifying part of his life.

He enjoyed his trade as an Electrician with IBEW Local 6 Union. Jack had a heart for Prison Ministry, and loved being a part of the Kairos Prison Ministry Team of Christian Volunteers that brought love and hope to those forgotten, unforgiven and judged. Jack was loved and a loving mentor to inmates and team members at California Medical Facility Prison, California State Prison Sacramento, Folsom Prison and San Quentin State Prison and to those he worked within other walks of this life. He will be deeply missed. It was as a Kairos Volunteer that he met his wife, Mary Ann. Jack had a generous heart and supported St Joseph's Indian School, St Jude's Children's Hospital, Union Gospel Mission, Nature Conservancy and through Children International Sponsored Children in Columbia for many years.

Jack is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his three sons, Tony, Jeff, Chris, their mother Jean Marie, Daughter-in-Laws Terri, Liz, Elena, as well as 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also a cherished member of his wife MaryAnn's family, including four children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Jack's family and friends will miss him and are grateful to God for the gift that was his life. Jack loved Beautiful Colors, please feel free to wear your favorite color to Celebrate Jack’s Life and that he is in Heaven with God and loved ones that are rejoicing to see him again!

If you would like to donate to your favorite Charities or to one of Jack’s Charities in lieu of flowers, please feel free to do so (Info Only Charity Donation flyers will be at Celebration of Life). If you would like to donate a small living plant to be planted at Jack’s and Mary Ann’s Home as a Memorial Garden for Jack, please bring plant to Celebration of Life.
