Obituary

Jolene Elmer, age 62, of Antelope, California returned to her heavenly home on July 27, 2023. She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi January 9, 1961, to Clarence Eliason Call and Rita Mae Wakefield Call. As a young child, the Call family moved to Denver, Colorado; Bangor, Maine; and Blenheim, New Zealand due to the United States Air Force assignments. In 1969, her family relocated to North Highlands, California. Jolene graduated from Foothill High School in 1978 and received an associate’s degree from American River College in 1981.

Later that year, Jolene met Patrick Elmer, the love of her life. They were married in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 10, 1982. This was the beginning of 41 years of wedded bliss. They raised four wonderful children in the North Highlands/Antelope area. She found her greatest pride and joy in her family. She had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mother until all her children were in school and then worked for 16 years as an insurance agent for Allstate. She had active roles in her church service in various callings. Some of the callings she served in were as a counselor in the Relief Society and Primary presidencies, Young Women’s president, and seminary teacher. She was instrumental in helping the young women she served with receive their Young Womanhood awards. She particularly enjoyed working with the youth. Most recently she became a temple ordinance worker and enjoyed the time she was able to spend in the temple.

She was a gifted musician and singer who played the piano and violin. She enjoyed playing the violin with various orchestras, such as the 1978 European Tour for America's Youth in Concert, Valley Choral Society, and River City Theater Company. Live theater, particularly musicals, was something she adored, and she passed on her love for music to her children.

Jolene was an exceptional mother and grandmother and was deeply loved and adored. Her powerful influence and example of faith and charity are intricately woven into the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be remembered for her humble spirit, her kind heart, beautiful smile, which she shared freely. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.

In April 2023, Jolene was diagnosed with T-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was soon reunited in heaven with her father, Clarence Call, and two sisters, Gaylene (David) Jensen and SuEllyn Mortensen. She continues to be deeply missed by her husband, Patrick Elmer, and four children: Sarah (Michael) Tangataevaha, Melissa (Jordan) Kaupanger, Kayla (Russell) Sprague, Adam (Jennifer) Elmer, and eleven grandchildren. She will also be missed by her mother Rita Call, and four siblings: Christian Call, Benson Call, Maitu (Jenny) Call, Fay (Stephen) Wassom, and brother-in-law DeeVere (Rosemary) Mortensen.
