Larry Givens Obituary

Larry Givens, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 17, 2026, in Rancho Cordova, California.

Larry was born on August 14, 1947, in Oakland, California, to Pauline and Robert Givens. He grew up in the Bay Area, where he spent most of his life, and graduated from San Lorenzo High School with the Class of 1966. Shortly after, he proudly served his country as an infantry soldier in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his two sons, Timothy Givens (Tabitha) and Robert Givens (Jeanne); his grandchildren, Ashlyn, Samuel, Oliver, and Robert III, who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and serves in the United States Army in South Korea; his brother, Richard Givens; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Lyn; his beloved son Shawn; his parents; and his brother Terry.

Larry spent most of his life in the Bay Area until the passing of his wife, after which he moved to Sacramento to live with his brother Richard. There, he was cared for by Richard and his wife, Levelyn, with deep love and dedication for over a decade.

Larry had a true passion for bowling, a sport that brought him immense joy and connection with his family. Many cherished memories were made together at the lanes, where Larry was known for his remarkable skill, bowling several perfect 300 games. He also enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

Larry will be remembered for his strength, his quiet resilience, his devotion to family, and the joy he found in the simple moments spent with those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A Message from His Brother and Caregiver, Richard:
Caring for Larry over the past decade was one of the greatest honors of my life. He was more than my brother—he was my friend, my responsibility, and my heart. Even in his hardest days, his strength never left him. I will miss our conversations, our memories, and simply having him by my side. I am grateful for every moment we had together, and I will carry him with me always.
