Leon Graydon Shular

Leon Graydon Shular passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born November 4, 1931 in Townley, Missouri to Norville Cecil and Ruby Nell (Snow) Shular. He was the 3rd of 7 children. Leon grew up in Missouri where he attended school. Leon joined the Air Force and was stationed at Mather AFB. It was here that he was invited to go on a blind date. He quickly realized that his friends’ date was someone he wanted to get to know. Her name was Dorothy Diana Miller. They fell in love and were married in Roseville, California in 1952. Leon was transferred to McGuire AFB in New Jersey and became a part of the Air Police 568th Squadron.

After his military service, Leon and Diana eventually settled in California. Leon joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints in 1958. He was completely devoted to his family and the church. He and Diana with four of their children were sealed together in the Los Angeles Temple in 1959.

Leon worked for Aerojet and in several different jobs before he found the job that he would love. He worked as a maintenance man for North Sacramento School District. He retired from the School District in 1993. After his retirement, Leon and Diana Served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. They served in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Mission. They enjoyed serving so much that they completed several service missions also. Leon was also a temple worker at the Sacramento California Temple before his health required that he become a temple patron. He enjoyed doing temple work and attending the temple as often as he could.

When you would visit Leon, he would serve you. He was always making sure you were not hungry or in need of a treat. When the grandchildren would visit, he would hand out cookies, pudding or a treat for them to take home with them.

Leon loved to create. He had a little workshop where he would make creations that would go home with anyone who visited. Many of us have drift wood animals, shell penguins, acorn birds and soda can airplanes. He could fix anything that was broken or use it in one of his creations.

Leon and Diana are the parents of 6 children. They also have 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Norville Cecil Shular and Ruby Nell (Snow) Shular, his son Steven Leon Shular, his brothers Lonzo Lloyd Shular and Cecil Leroy Shular, and his sister Alma May (Shular) DeGroot. He is survived by his loving wife, Diana, daughter-in-law Cindy (Steven) Shular and 5 children, Lucinda (Carbon) Lundgren, Rodger (Antonella) Shular, Cary (Sue) Shular, Christopher (Cindy) Shular and Jay (Tricia) Shular.  He is also survived by sisters Lorene Dortch, Ann Beck and brother Leslie Shular.

Leon has a great posterity that will remember him fondly.
