Leonora King Hoyt Obituary

Leonora King Hoyt our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023 at the age of 86. Leonora was a former resident of Ogden, UT and Sacramento, CA. Leonora was born on March 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her family later moved to Huntsville, Utah where she lived on “The King’s Berry Farm”, until she joined the Navy in 1957. It was in the Navy that she met her eternal companion, Charles Noah Hoyt. Leonora and Charles were married on July 7, 1959. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 27, 1963.Together they raised six children and one granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Charles (Sherlynn) Hoyt II, Richard (Irina) Hoyt, Kitty (Kevin) Barney, Nicholas (Debra) Hoyt, Lisa (Steve) Brown, Laurence (Vicki) Hoyt, and granddaughter Melissa Marie Hoyt, eleven other grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Leonora served proudly in the US Navy. She was very patriotic and loved her country. She was a devoted wife and mother and held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of her favorite callings was working in the Oakland Temple, prior to the building of the Sacramento Temple.   She loved family history and doing temple work. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for over fifty years. For the past five years she served as her Camp’s Chaplain.

Her children are rejoicing in knowing this has been a joyous reunion for our mother and father, whom she met at a Valentine’s dance in 1957. We know they are together again and dancing in Heaven. Leonora has also been reunited with her loving parents, Alonzo and Alfreda King, her five older siblings, a brother-in-law, four sisters-in-law, two grandchildren and many ancestors whom she had done their temple work for. She had a great love for God, Family, and Country.

The family would like to thank the many staff members and friends of Welcome Home, Holly L. Carter, NP along with her nurse, Llubitza for their tender care and love and for keeping our mom as comfortable as possible this past year. We would also like to thank the Hospice staff for their help and support for her last few days of life. A graveside service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. She will be laid to rest with full Military honors next to her sweetheart.
