Linton Larson Dickson

Linton Larson Dickson was born July 19, 1938, in Los Angeles, California to Bertram Lochhead Dickson and Elizabeth Larson Dickson. At the time, he had an older sister, and two younger sisters were welcomed later on. In his early childhood, his family moved north to Citrus Heights where they purchased a small farm. It was here Linton learned his first lessons of working together as a family to pursue well-being and happiness. As he grew into his teenage and adult years, he gained employment and fond memories of working on a family-owned turkey ranch and later at the auction yard with larger animals.

While attending San Juan High School, he met and courted Sandra Lee Scott, a girl who also attended his local church congregation. They married in September 1957 in the Los Angeles, California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

After completion of high school and before marriage, Linton joined the United States Army Reserves. This military service did not last as Linton and Sandra began welcoming children into their home and Linton pursued and completed an apprentice program with Aerojet as a machinist.  His work on defense missiles and space machinery helped prepare him to become a full-time and self-employed electrician, owning and operating a successful business with his sons, grandsons, extended family and family friends, Dickson Electric. His work and company were known for honesty, integrity, and excellence in the field. These attributes of character were exemplified by him to his wife and children daily, especially as many of his children had the opportunity to take at least one trip with him to a job site.

Linton and Sandra eventually welcomed nine children into their home. As the family grew, they purchased property in Roseville, California (present day Granite Bay), and built a home with the help of friends and family to house the beautiful Dickson legacy they were nurturing. The children blessed to be born to these wonderful parents were Marlys, Kevin, Leslie, Scott, Eric, Mark, Katrina, Bonnie, and Stephanie.

Linton was a loving husband and father, quietly protecting and providing through his daily hard work and service. This service extended beyond the home, even as early as his teenage years, as he contributed many hours of work to the ward church buildings, stake centers and temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Approximately seventy years of faith-filled service went into these operations, all behind-the-scenes acts of love for his Savior, Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father.

Linton and Sandra had the opportunity to serve together in the Oakland, CA and Sacramento, CA temples before her passing in November of 2008. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage the year previous to her passing, an event attended by many friends and family.

Linton continued his joyful service in the Sacramento, CA Temple, where a new love began with Cindy Jacobsen, a talented and sweet building mechanic employed by the church. They were married in February 2010 and later sealed together in the Sacramento Temple.

Always a man of few words, they were carefully chosen, laced with humor, a smile, and kindness. His loves were his faith, his family, and service in the temple of the Lord. Happy times came through regular camping trips, church and national history site visits, Sunday drives, and short naps holding a sleeping grandchild as other family visits around them.

His surviving family consists of his loving wife, Cindy Dickson, children Marlys Jordan, Kevin (Judy) Dickson, Leslie (Randy) Giboney, Scott (Brenda) Dickson, Eric (Sheri) Dickson, Mark (Heather) Dickson, Katrina Whitaker, Bonnie Rodriguez, Stephanie (Andy) Dalton, and Linton’s two sisters Launa Hatfield and Jeanine Schafer. Linton also has 45 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. All will forever love and miss this devoted patriarch and look forward to the day when we will all be reunited as a forever family.
