Lois Kay Dyer

Lois Kay Dyer, of Sacramento, CA, loving wife of Richard Dean Dyer, returned to her Heavenly home on October 27, 2018. Although born in Salt Lake City, UT, 19 September 1946, as the daughter of a career Air Force officer, she lived in many states and Japan with her family: Donald Dunn (father), Clara Jean Buck Dunn (mother) and Glenda Marie Dunn (younger sister). Lois also had an older sister, Donna Jean Dunn, who died before adulthood. She is survived by her husband, Richard Dyer, and her sister, Glenda Dunn Hobbs.

The most important thing in the world to Lois was her family – present, past, and future. As a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was sealed to her husband, parents, and sisters in the holy temple. Then she helped search out and provide temple ordinances for many generations of ancestors, providing the opportunity for them to be families forever in the eternities. Lois taught many family history and temple preparation classes to help others obtain temple blessings and she worked as an ordinance worker and assistant coordinator at the Sacramento temple for three years. There will surely be hundreds of people in the spirit world who will thank her personally for the blessings she provided to them, as well as the hundreds of people still here whom she has served and blessed.

Lois is most often described by those who know her as a “ministering angel”. Her life was a living example of loving God and loving others as herself, with all her heart, might, and strength. She continued to care for others during her battle with leukemia, making gifts, visiting, listening, consoling, and trying to fulfill their needs. Lois gave no thought to herself when someone needed her help. The world was a better place with her in it. Her smile and unconditional love lit up face and radiated to everyone around her. Lois celebrated her 50th anniversary with her husband on May 10, 2017, and it was a joyous occasion, a gift of shared love, for all who attended.

Lois was highly skilled in her career providing clerical support and office management. She retired from Sacramento County in 2008. Lois was also talented in music and leadership skills. She played piano and organ, conducted music, taught Primary music, taught gospel lessons, and served in the Relief Society presidency in the church. She organized workshops, service projects, and fulfilled every assignment she was ever given with enthusiasm, diligence, and faithfulness. Her visual aids and handouts were legendary! Lois was incapable of doing anything less than her best, and that was outstanding.

Lois enjoyed crocheting and plastic canvas work, which she enjoyed doing with her mother for decades. She gifted most of what she made to friends, family, and acquaintances. She crocheted beautiful layettes for the babies born in her church ward and others she knew. She made dozens of lovely ruffled scarves and gave them to all the temple sisters with whom she worked, all the nurses at the infusion center, and dozens of others. Her love was boundless.

Lois also enjoyed reading and volunteered to read authors’ unpublished drafts of new books to review them before publication. She enjoyed traveling to visit relatives across the United States and never missed a family reunion. She attended a reunion of cousins in Nashville, TN, in April 2018, reminiscing with childhood playmates she had not seen for more than 20 years. Many cousins traveled from across the country to see her; she was a key motivator and organizer in assembling the Buck family descendants and it was a great day for all who attended. She is now enjoying a reunion with her other family members who passed through the veil before her and paradise is an even brighter place with her in it. There is no doubt she will continue to help and serve others there as she did here. There is also no doubt she will continue to watch over those she loves here on earth because that is who she is – our own ministering angel.  

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11AM, with a viewing commencing at 10AM, at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Florin Ward Meetinghouse Chapel (8580 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA).  PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (916-725-2109), directors. (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, 916-725-2109).  A graveside service interment will be held at the Camellia Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Sacramento, CA, and a reception luncheon will be held for all those who wish to attend at the Florin Ward meetinghouse following the graveside service.
