Lola Neilsen Cummings

A long-time resident of Pleasanton, CA, Lola Nielsen Cummings passed away in Rocklin, CA on October 29, 2021, at age 95.  Born in Idaho Falls, ID, to Jesse Hans Nielsen and Florence Ruth Kingston, she was the youngest of 9 children.  Lola grew up in a home filled with music, and she enjoyed performing with school groups and in a trio with her two best friends.

After graduating from high school during World War II, she moved with her family to California. Lola attended UC Berkeley and earned an associate degree in clothing and textiles while working at the UC Admissions Office. There she met the love of her live, David Butler Cummings. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and celebrated their 65th anniversary shortly before his death in 2015. Lola was a loving mother to five children: Janet (Bob) Stewart, Martha (Karl) Kern, Richard Cummings, Gordon Cummings and Julia (Jim) Wheeler, and a doting grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.  

Upon David’s retirement, they served missions together in southern England and the Boston area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They also worked together in the Pleasanton Family History Center and the Oakland LDS Temple for many years. Kind and loving to the end, she was the favorite of her memory care nurses, as well as all of her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, November 13, at the Rocklin LDS Chapel on 2831 Theona Way off of Park Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Aid Fund (www.ldsphilanthropies.org). Arrangements by Price Funeral Chapel.
