Sovereign, Marion Virginia Johnson, age 102, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in Auburn, CA. Born in Oroville, California September 15, 1918. She was the youngest child of Benjamin Farland Johnson, Jr. an early Mormon settler in Gridley, California. She attended Oroville High School and married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Foulk. As a young couple in Martinez they had five sons. Their marriage lasted 17 years and Marion was left to raise the boys on her own. With her encouragement and support three served full time missions, all the sons attended college. Each receiving degrees, Bill a high school teacher, Roger, Ben, and Don dentists. Four of the sons served as Bishops in various Wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Marion met the love of her life Donald K. Sovereign in 1958 and married him in 1959 and had thirty-six years of glorious marriage. Marion continued her schooling and worked as a legal secretary, then ran the bookstore at Diablo Valley College in Concord, Ca. They served a two-year mission together and settled in Somerset, Ca after retirement. Marion loved the outdoors and was a master gardener, loved crocheting and knitting, and was devout in her faith.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald, and her eldest son David. She leaves her four sons, Donald; Benjamin; Roger; William; 27 grandchildren, 180 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grand-children.
There will be a graveside service for family at Memory Gardens cemetery in Concord, Ca.
