Marlyn “Micki” Blankenfeld, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point in Lehi, Utah, after an illness and complications from a broken leg.
She was born on July 24, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah (Pioneer Day is a state holiday that celebrates Mormon pioneers). Having that distinction, Micki rode with other children who had the same birthday in the Salt Lake City Pioneer Day parade. As a young girl, Micki thought the celebration was all for her.
After graduating high school in Portland, Oregon, she worked as a telephone operator and model before meeting Kenneth Blankenfeld. The two eventually settled in Sacramento, California, in the communities of Fair Oaks and Orangevale, where they raised two sons and two daughters and spent most of their lives.
Micki was a talented writer, playwright and seamstress who had a passion for gourmet cooking and genealogy. She enjoyed anything vintage or antique, especially furniture.
Whether with health or other circumstances, Micki had an inner fortitude when faced with life’s challenges, which was reflected in the nickname her father gave her at a young age — “Tuffy.”
Several times throughout her life, Micki became so gravely ill that she was not expected to live. But through a strong will and determination she survived.
That toughness was reflected in how she faced mounting health challenges over the past few months. She endured them with grace and courage while showing kindness and gratitude to those around her.
As a woman of faith, she loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and adored her family. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children Ken, Buddy, Liz, and Amy and their spouses; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
Micki led a full and fruitful life. She will be missed and remembered with fondness from friends and family — with the knowledge that we will see her again.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bass Lake Ward Building: 3431 Hacienda Drive, Cameron Park, California. A viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:00 a.m. Price Funeral Chapel (916-725-2109), directors.
