Mary Louise Hale

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Hale, who passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 4, 2025, at the age of 92.

Mary was born on January 1, 1933, at home in Bloomsbury, New Jersey, to loving parents Marion Butler and Julia Vince. She spent her early childhood in Bloomsbury before moving to Richmond, California, at the age of 14 with her mother and stepfather, Augustus Stricker. In June 1951, Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Berkeley, California. During her senior year, she met Nathan Angelo Hale, the love of her life. After high school, she worked at a bank in San Francisco.

Mary and Nathan married on September 1, 1951, and shared 36 wonderful years together before Nathan’s passing in 1987. Together, they raised five children: Nathan Joseph, Claire Louise, Michael Tracy, Richard Anthony, and Tina Marie. Mary and Nathan were blessed with eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to their lives.

In 1959, Mary and Nathan moved to Orangevale, California, where she resided until the final months of her life. Mary dedicated many years to being a homemaker and running a babysitting business exclusively for teachers so she could share holidays with her children. She was an active member of the PTA, a supporter of local sports, and an engaged participant in the Orangevale community.

In 1977, Mary rejoined the workforce, as a computer data operator during tax season for Franchise Tax Board. In 1978 she was hired by Exploration Logging, Exlog, to manage payroll. She took great pride in her work and went above and beyond her duties by organizing events and sports pools. She retired from EXLOG in 1988. Upon her retirement, she partnered with her son Nathan to open a sports memorabilia shop in Sacramento.

Mary was deeply involved in her community, serving as the chair of the Nifty Fifties Club and as a founding parishioner of Divine Savior Catholic Church in Orangevale. She led bereavement seminars, ensuring families were supported during difficult times as well as organizing receptions following funeral masses. An avid bingo player and a skilled MahJong player/instructor, Mary also enjoyed winning her fair share of sports pools. She enjoyed baseball, a River Cats and San Francisco Giants fan and New Orleans Saints football fan.

Mary is survived by her two youngest children, Richard (Laurie) and Tina (Bill); her grandchildren, Richard Jr. (Olga), Tonya (Scott), Katrina (Benjamin), Justin (Se), Melissa (Eddie), Kristina (Cesar), Andres, Haley, Michael Jr., Brett, and Bradley; and her great-grandchildren, Sasha, Jack, Bradley, Brandon, Cody, Chase, Stella, Rebecca, Xavier, Ryder, Alyssa, Giovanni, Kyrah, Claire, Alejandro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Julia; her sisters, Ethel and Julia; her husband, Nathan; and three of her children, Nathan, Claire, and Michael.
A funeral mass will be held at Divine Savior Catholic Church in Orangevale on Friday, March 14, 2025, with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. followed by mass at 10:30 a.m.

Mary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends, whose lives she enriched with her kindness, dedication, support, and love.
