In Loving Memory of Maxine Marie Phipps

May 30, 1947 – May 16, 2025

Born in the hills of Meadowbrook, West Virginia, Maxine Marie Phipps was one of twelve beloved children of Genevieve and Paul Hunter. Her childhood was rich with the sounds of kitchen country music, where she listened to her brothers play and, later in life, found joy singing old-school country tunes with her son, Sam.

For the past 25 years, Maxine made her home in Woodland, California, where she formed a close-knit circle of dear friends. She worked at True Value Hardware, where she became known as the heart of the store—always ready with a smile, a solution, and a deep knowledge of everyone’s household needs.

Maxine is survived by her loving son, Sammie (Marcy), a cherished group of granddaughters, one proud grandson, and her most favorite donut buddy, great-granddaughter Eloise, with whom she shared countless sweet mornings. She is also survived by many loving family members, including sister-in-laws, cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry, and her son, Jerry Michael (Lisa), both of whom she loved deeply and missed dearly.

Maxine will be laid to rest privately beside her husband Jerry at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. A celebration of her amazing life will be held soon, with more details to come.

Her life was one of music, devotion, and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and the kind of country spirit that never fades.
