Michael Paul Cayer, lovingly known as “Hop,” passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Cordova, California, on March 18, 2026, at the age of 71 after exhausting all options to fight his liver cancer.
Michael was born on July 3, 1954, in Biddeford, Maine. He proudly served his country as a Radioman third class on the USS Tripoli in the United States Navy and later spent many years working as a long-haul truck driver. He was known for his dedication, resilience, and deep devotion to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Monson; his two daughters, Sarah Cayer and Amber (Andrew) Goettle; his stepchildren, Jennifer Becker and Jeffrey Monson; his grandchildren, Joseph (McKena) Robinson, Mia Becker, Daniel Becker, Auttie Monson, and Roya Goettle; and his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Paisley, and Carter Robinson, his sister Rachel Cayer, nephew Bryant Anderson, niece Jennifer Godfrey and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a loving husband, dad and great-grandfather, and his family was the center of his life.
Michael was a die-hard Raiders fan. He found joy in golfing, camping and fishing, and he especially cherished time spent in the kitchen preparing his well-known and much-loved “best yet” meals for family and friends. His warmth, humor, and generosity will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Boulevard, Citrus Heights, California. A viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A burial service will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, California 95628. A reception will follow from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rancho Cordova Elks Lodge, 11440 Elks Circle, Rancho Cordova, California 95742.
Michael’s life was marked by service, love, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. His memory will be cherished always and he will be missed beyond measures.
