Michael David Donovan

On Thursday, January 26 2023, Michael David Donovan, loving husband and devoted father of four children and an incredible grandfather of eleven grandchildren passed away from lung cancer at the age of 66. Michael was born on March 27, 1956 in Lompoc, CA to John Donovan and Eleanor Grolemund. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from National University and earned his CPA license in 1982. He earned his Master’s degree in tax from Golden Gate University. He practiced accounting for 24 years and then became a CFO in 2006. On July 16, 1977 he married Kimberly Lynn Cooney. They raised two sons, Brian John Donovan and David Michael Donovan and two daughters, Heidi Christine Donovan Drew and Janel Renae Donovan.  

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and 11 grandchildren.  Activities they all enjoyed included playing tennis, playing games, swimming, playing with the young children, or planning an exciting family trip. He was quick to share his smile and laughter. He devoted his life to serving his family, church, and those around him. He was steadfast in his faith and had a deep conviction of God. He served in many leadership capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For eighteen months he served a mission with Kimberly in Tbilisi, Georgia where he helped coordinate humanitarian aid and provided leadership to the young missionaries serving there. He put other people’s needs before his own. He was service oriented and would be the first to volunteer to help others with groceries, taxes, or supporting a missionary. He was known for his brilliant financial mind, acumen, and dedicated work ethic to his clients, coworkers and friends. 

Michael was preceded in death by both his father (2002) and mother (2004) and his son, Derek Scott Donovan (1986). He is survived by his wife, Kim, and their four children and eleven grandchildren: Brian John Donovan and wife Tasha Torgerson (4 children), Heidi Christine and husband Ryan Drew (4 children), David Michael Donovan and his wife Alyson Kubo (3 children), and Janel Donovan.  He is also survived by his four sisters Mary Ellen Holbrook, Deborah Fleischbein, Kathryn Younts, and Margaret Donovan.  .

Memorial service will be held on Saturday February 4th, 2023 at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7800 Santa Juanita Ave., Folsom, CA  95630 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Sierra Hills Memorial Park in Sacramento, California.
