Neil Allen Rominger

Neil Allen Rominger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and treasured friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in his Fair Oaks home at the age of 80. Neil was surrounded by his loving wife, Elizabeth and family. Neil was called to heaven after many happy years with his family and dear friends. 

Neil was born on September 17, 1944 in Woodland, California to Vernon Fredrick and Esther Marguerite Rominger, the third son of four sons total. Neil loved to share stories about his early days as a young boy on the family farm. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren about the many tools his family donated that are currently displayed at the California Agriculture Museum and Event Center in Woodland. 

After graduating Woodland High School Neil enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for four years where he was a Boiler Operator on a ship. Neil served in  Vietnam and was also a proud member of the Navy Seabees. Neil received an honorable discharge and was released from active service in Long Beach, California. Neil returned to Northern California where he became a truck driver and enjoyed a long career with Raley’s Supermarket. 

Neil and Elizabeth, both widowed, met in 2007 and quickly fell in love before they were married in 2007. As they were both retired, they enjoyed traveling on an Alaskan cruise and many trips to their favorite place, the island of Maui. Neil especially enjoyed trips to Maui with his daughter Dana and her family. Neil enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and beach. 

Neil was a strong man of Christian faith and he was a dedicated member of both Christ Community Church and Bayside of Granite Bay. Neil enjoyed worshipping with his Christian community and being of service to others. Neil also rode his Harley Davidson motorcycle with several Christian clubs, and in his later years found solace and growth in Celebrating Recovery. Studying the word of God in men’s group was a favorite faith based practice. 

As Neil advanced in his years, he found a new hobby in collecting and completing complicated Lego sets. This made Neil a popular ‘grandpa’ in his neighborhood as he liked to share his completed pieces with the neighborhood children. Neil had a laugh that was loud and deeply heartfelt and matched his big personality which could easily fill a room. Neil had a habit of making friends everywhere he went. 

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, his daughters Sharon Lowry and Dana Shong, his son-in-laws, Jeff Lowry and David Shong, his grandchildren, Allyson Lowry, Jessica Lowry, Nicholas Bentley and Cooper Lowry, as well as Neil’s brother, Lee Fredrick Rominger, and his sister-in-law, Dolly Rominger. 

Neil is preceded in death his parents, Vernon and Esther (Jones) Rominger, and his two bothers, James Vernon and Daniel Clark. 

Interment services will be held at Sacramento Valley Memorial Cemetery in Dixon, California, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California, 95620 on October 31, 2024 at 10:00AM. (Please arrive 10 minutes early) 

A Celebration of Life event will be held at Christ Community Church, 5025 Manzanita Avenue, Carmichael, California, 95608 on November 23, 2024 at 1:30PM.
